National University of Singapore (NUS) -

The merger of University of Singapore and Nanyang University established National University of Singapore (NUS) in the year of 1980. The purpose of this merger is to create a stronger education unit and promote English as Singapore main language. NUS has 3 campuses to accommodate 16 faculties operating under NUS. The campuses are located in Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah, and Outram area, with Kent Eidge campus act as the main campus.



NUS is considered as the best University in Singapore. According to Times Higher Education, NUS is ranked on 29th position worldwide and 2nd in Asia behind The University of Tokyo in Japan. This shows that NUS reputation is not only acknowledged in Singapore, but also in worldwide level.



NUS offer various education levels, starting from undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate level. NUS has total of 16 faculties.

NUS undergraduate program offer many interesting programs such as Business Administration, Computer Science, Medicine, and several major of Engineering and Science. Undergraduate programs in NUS usually take around 3 to 4 years to complete. Besides the regular program, NUS also has several added value program such as Concurent Degree Programmes (CDP), Double Degree Programme (DDP), Double Major Program (DMP), Joint Degree Programmes, and Part-Time Programme.

For graduate programs, NUS master degree is divided into 2 categories, Master by Research, and Master by Coursework. Doing master by research mean that student’s primary task is doing research on certain topics. Although there will be coursework, the research percentage is much higher. On the other hand, master by coursework require student to attend class and take lecture, same like undergraduate studies.

Besides their main campus in Singapore, NUS also has Overseas Colleges, located in Beijing, Shanghai, India, Israel, Stockholm, Bio Valley, Silicon Valley, and New York.


Entry Requirements

NUS entry requirements for undergraduate students is a good Level 12 or equivalent education. Having a good English language certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL is also necessary because all subject in NUS are taught in English. NUS will then evaluate all candidates based on submitted data to determined approval of admission.

For graduate or master degree, NUS requirements are more complicated. Every student has to submit GRE or GMAT to demonstrate academic ability and TOEFL or IELTS for language ability when applying. Benchmark for GRE score is 320 (verbal and quantitative) and 3.5 (analytical) or GMAT score of 650 and above. While for IELTS or TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT), the minimum requirement is 6.0 or 90 respectively.


Tuition Fee

At present, undergraduate and graduate education at NUS is highly subsidised by the Government of Singapore, which pays for the bulk of the operating costs as well as the infrastructural costs. The University’s fees are reviewed and adjusted periodically to reflect the cost of providing education to students.


Future Prospect

NUS graduate will benefit from NUS reputation after completing their study in NUS. Usually, NUS graduate found it easier to find a job in Singapore or even in International Level. Being NUS graduate also make it easier to continue study to further level in International University or Institution.

NUS is one of the best option of study in Singapore. Although the requirement has high standard and require a hard work in study, NUS graduate will enjoy all the benefit once they complete their study.
